This Saturday we play Macquarie at Lyall Peacock Field. Our Club historian Stephen “Chunk” Brown has contributed the following insightful piece.
For the very first time in our history Lakes United travel to Macquarie for the season opener. On five previous occasions the Seagulls have hosted the Scorpions at Cahill Oval in the first game of a season 1979, 1981, 1983, 2015 & 2017) but today will be a first at Lyle Peacock Field. Four of those matches resulted in wins for the home side but this season Macquarie are defending premiers and playing on home turf will be a difficult task for new coach Todd Edwards and our players. Lakes have a good record in season openers (43 won, 25 lost & 3 drawn) but if a win is achieved today then it will no doubt be well earned.
